Happy Mother’s Day, MOM

DSC_0222

I wrote this note to Mom seven years ago. The same is true today, seven years later. The difference now from then lies in the fact that I am seven more years in love with you, Mom. I hope that you don’t mind me going back in time for a thought. I frankly can’t say it any better even if I’m now 61 “damn years old,” to quote my Uncle Grover!

I set up the photo shoot for the pictures accompanying this post Mother’s Day two years ago. We gathered available family to celebrate Mother’s Day with Mom and Dad at Page and Maggie’s home in Greensboro, NC. We had a blast shooting the pictures in the backyard. I’m including the raw images too showing the behind the scenes and photo bombing going on with Clark, Blair, Peyton and Russell, my not always trustworthy sheet holders. Included in the photos besides Page and the kids are mothers Julie and Maggie.

Happy Mother’s Day to one and all.

Mother’s Day May 2007

Mom,

I love talking with you.

You spread a smile on my face with your quick laughter,

Often at yourself. I mean, you make you laugh, and that’s funny.

And you can just as quickly well up

Thinking some sweet and tender thought

That stops you from talking for just a few seconds.

And then, your smile returns,

And you tell me about some other something or another

That you heard or watched or did,

And I let it all wash over me,

Feeling cleansed by your love

Like I must have felt as a baby,

Washed up bright and shiny

Ready to return your smile with my own,

Before you tucked me in to bed.

And I’m so grateful to, at 54 damn years old,

Write this 2007 Mother’s Day note for you to read

And know how much I love, respect, admire and adore you.

Happy Mothers Day sweet Momma,

Your Son, with your Daughter-in-Law, grand son and daughter

  1. Steve,
What a clever and thoughtful way to celebrate Mother’s Day for your Mom and my special friend!
Thank you for sharing this with me. I hope Julie had a great day yesterday as did I.
    Love,
    Sandra
